Hello everyone and welcome to November! I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween, but if we could all take a break from eating candy I do have a few important things to talk about and announce. Since this is Northbound’s first newsletter I will make sure to explain what everything means in this post, but in the future these can be much more brief or extensive depending on what’s going on that month. Make sure to read this through and don’t be afraid to ask any questions!
MotM: As you probably noticed, up top is a poll where everyone can vote for Northbound’s very first MotM (Member of the Month). All of the nominees have been active, contributing members both on the site and in the roleplay, and we appreciate them very much. <3 Cast your vote for who you think should be November’s MotM and the final results will be revealed this weekend (or as soon as everyone has voted). If you weren’t nominated this time around, don’t be discouraged! Northbound has many more months ahead.
A.C.: Next up on the list is an Activity Check. For this all you have to do is post in this thread, rating yourself on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being inactive and 10 being very active, on how you predict your activity will look this month. There won’t be any consequences for giving an honest number, no matter how low, but those who do not participate in Activity Checks run the risk of getting their account marked as inactive and their characters locked. To undo this contact a staff member letting them know you will be active again!

Now, onto some site updates. Our rules have also been updated so please check those out if you need a refresher!
New Staff!
A few of you may have noticed that Maya has recently been sporting a snazzy blue name.She has been hard at work making a brand new skin for Northbound and doing lots of other fancy stuff, and now I am glad to announce that she has been brought on as official NB staff! Welcome to our very first Coder!
The new skin is still a W.I.P., but I will be sure to make an announcement when it is finished as it will be made our default skin. The current default skin for Northbound will be kept as well, for those who wish to keep using it.
Forum Rearrangements
On a similar note, a couple things around the forum have been changed and moved. Here are some of the most important updates:
Points System and ShopThe joining thread has been moved to The Handbook.The Brainstorming board is now in the Bulletin Board category.Character Registration & Development has now been renamed to Character Registration & Adoption.Plotters, Trackers, and Development Threads board has been created.Other Roleplay category has been created (still under construction).
As of today our Points system is active! From now on posting in and creating threads will earn you points in certain boards, which can then be earned in a Points Shop (which has yet to be set up but is on it’s way). In the points shop you can buy things such as extra character slots, unrealistic eye colors, character accessories, custom rank titles, and more! Get posting and start earning some points. c;
Liquid RP - In Need Of Opinions!!
Last but not least, I’d like to toss out another idea for the site in hopes of getting your guys’ opinions. Currently NB uses static rp, which is when there are location threads pre-made for everyone to use and your wolf can only be in one thread at a time. This has it’s benefits, such as all threads always being open and a really specific timeline being followed, but it also has some serious downfalls. Roleplay moves at a snail’s pace (we’ve been open for nearly a month and we’ve not even completed day 1 of rp), and the location threads can get cluttered with characters, making it hard to look back on past scenes.
Liquid rp is when there are still preset locations, but instead of each location having a thread to rp on it would have a board or thread dedicated to the information on the area, and to rp in that area you make a brand new thread for each scene or plot that takes place there. This might sound confusing at first, but it is easy to pick up and it also has some benefits. Time moves faster which allows for better plotting and character development, your wolves can be in more threads than one because the timeline isn’t “static” (you can hop around from mid-winter to early winter, for example), and you have the choice to make rp threads open to the public or private for only a specific group! The cons of this of course would be the learning curve and a potentially muddled timeline.
So I want to know what you all have to think! Would you prefer liquid or static rp, and why? Any concerns if we were to make that switch?
Thank you all for reading and I hope you have a survivable Thursday. <3
