His lean legs carried him over the forest floor in an easy lope, weaving around tree's and hopping over roots and logs. His smooth red and white fur brushed against the dry Autumn leaves as he agilely slipped by. Dusk smiled as small leaf swirls stirred up in his wake, how he loved running. The cool chill of the coming winter whisped through his fur, rising his high spirits further.
Duskerai slowed to a walk to admire the scenery, all around leaves were mixtures of reds and oranges, the occasional yellow showing as well. It was like the sunset was reflecting on the earth. The young two year old breathed in the crisp air, sighing it out in relaxation.
The sun would be setting soon, it already dipped towards the Western horizon. He should be getting back soon before darkness rained over the territory.
Just as Duskerai turned to head home, the faint grunts and bellows reached his ears. He paused, right front paw hanging above the ground as he listened, ears perked. And while he hadn't much experience with the creature making the noise, there was no doubt about it, that was a bull moose. And an angry one too.. Dusk began to get a little worried, bull moose were brutal and mean, even a huge pack had a challenge taking one on, if a bull came adter him alone... He could be trampled into dust.
A small whimper rised in Duskerai's throat, he wanted to turn tail and run from the angry animal before it got closer and spotted him. But, what if someone else was in trouble? It was moose rutting season after all, when bulls were always highly aggressive. Someone could've simply walked up on this one by accident and the bull would be furious, and probably charge... This only ensured that Dusk's own safety was at risk, but he had to knwk if somebody needed help.
As the grunts and bellows continued Dusk found himself more curious, though still hesitant. "C'mon Dusky, stay cool. This could be your chance." The male said to himself quietly as he took a step towards the sounds. With his senses alert, Duskerai made his way through the forest at a steady trot, placing his paw steps carefully as to make little noise as possible. The sounds became louder as he neared, until they were just on the other side of a huge log. Dusk poked his head over the old wood, being careful to stay low. What his ember eyes saw was astonishing. There, stood a giant bull moose facing a large leaning tree, it's hooves stomping and horns clashing against the wood. But inside the tree is what caught Duskerai's attention, huddled against the roots was a small female! Duskerai gasped.
