Hello everyone and welcome to Northbound’s first newsletter of 2019! It has been a while since we have posted one of these formally, so make sure to read through so you don’t miss anything important.
Up above this post you can vote between two stellar members of Northbound to become MotM. Congrats to Taylor and Reuben on your nominations, and best of luck to the both of you! The MotM will be announced this weekend.
Our first change is one to the activity check system. We will be scrapping the idea entirely, and it is no longer a requirement for everyone to post in this thread with any numbers or estimates. Instead, take these newsletters as an opportunity to give everyone a warning if you have any plans to be away this month or if you fear your activity might drop drastically because of school/work/etc.

March IRL means spring in Northbound. Spring means new life, and new life means the start of another year of survival for our characters! Starting today, all new threads should take place in spring and marked as NB2. As always, you may continue to rp in your pre existing winter NB1 threads until you’re able to wrap them up, but make sure to check the “Updated Rules” section of this newsletter for more information on thread restrictions and time limits.
With the new spring season approaching we also suspect many of your characters may be having litters of puppies! Very exciting! Currently Northbound does not have any restrictions or processes when it comes to creating and designing your litters or determining how many puppies are born, but remember that if you want a hybrid litter (where the parents are two different species) or one with 8 pups, you have to make a purchase in the Official NB Shop.
There have been minor changes made to the rules here at Northbound, specifically relating to user accounts and roleplay. Be sure to check them out and re-familiarize yourself.
One of the more notable changes is that roleplay threads that are two in-game seasons old will be automatically locked if they haven’t been posted in for a month. You can request to have them unlocked and unarchived, but only if you intend to post actively in it and get it completed.
New Skin Recolor + Forum Rearrangements
Northbound is always evolving both as a roleplay and a story, but also as a website. Today we say goodbye to the beloved snow plugin and say hello to some new rearrangements and colors!
First thing’s first, we have a new version of our current skin up for use! It is a recoloring of the beautiful skin that coder Maya has made for us, with some warmer-toned colors for the greener months. This skin will be added to the list of options in your account settings if you’d like to switch to it, and is called Grassy Plains. Many thanks and all credits for the original skin go to Maya!
Some things within the forum itself have also moved around, and more changes are likely to come throughout the month.
A shiny, beautiful new Wolf Guide has been created and posted by our moderator Alex for everyone to use as reference, and is available in the Encyclopedia alongside other guides. More to come, and make sure to give Alex some love for her hard work! A new guide has also been stickied in the Marketplace board for anyone who needs some help figuring out Northbound’s point system.
The Introduce Yourself board is now a sub board in Chitter Chatter, and some of you may also have noticed that our Joining thread was replaced by one called Getting Started. Nothing too drastic there. You may see more changes around the site over the next couple of weeks, but don’t be alarmed! All changes are made for the betterment of NB and in preparation for upcoming updates.
I’ve mentioned a few times now that some of these new features are in preparation for future updates. It’s been a long time coming but I am happy to announce that NB is finally going to get it’s shiny new map next month, shortly followed by the create-a-pack system coming later in the spring!
Boards will move and things will get rearranged a lot these coming months. New threads will be posted and systems will be introduced. For now, if you see anything new and shiny, consider it staff direction to ignore it and continue on as usual unless instructed otherwise! We will inform you all when new systems and things are ready to be opened, and we’ll explain it all in detail when the time comes. In the meantime, just let us know if you get confused or can’t find something. This is a very exciting time for Northbound…
Thank you all for reading and you will be hearing from me again very soon. <3
