It was right up ahead, her prize. Long-necked and blissfully unaware of the snowy pelted predator lurking in the bushes. Ias' eyes were wide and fiery with hunger, her limbs aching as if begging for her to make a move, but she knew she had to wait.
Sandhill cranes weren't small. She needed a good moment to lunge forward and get a clean snap at it's neck. Her eyes trailed over the odd red patch on it's head and idly wondered what the hell that meant - if this one was a boy or something. She really didn't know shit about these birds except their name and that it had meat on it's bones, meaning it belonged in her belly. A rumble of thunder called out from somewhere beyond the trees and as the crane jerked up, startled, and Ias saw her opportunity.
Like wound up coils her muscles snapped her forward, teeth aimed at the bird's neck and gnashing... only to find air. Ias' paws splashed in the water as she skidded to a halt, watching in disbelief as the big old fucker made some horrible noises and started to flap away. How had she missed it? No matter, Ias was not giving up. She ran through the shallow stream, hot on the bird's heels and snapping at them, trying to grab hold. "C'mere, you... little..." The crane couldn't spread it's large wings in the cramped space of the woods and fly away, it seemed to realize, but that didn't stop it from hovering above the water and flying as fast as it could, calling out loud enough to shake Ias' eardrums. She kept running and even jumping, trying to snag something, but the end of the woods was fast approaching and she wasn't making much progress.
