Kole
The pebble-size sand felt nice. Same sharp rocks and loose gravel. Same dry grass that would liven up in the coming months and same water crashing up against her legs. Nostalgia had Kole shaken as she stared down the horizon. Only big difference was that island there in the distance.
Her birth pack never had that. Clear waters there, save for the big rocks standing firm through the current. But it was close enough that Kole felt like she was a pup again, if only for just a second. Nothing else ever made her think about that place so much without a word.
Made her feel a longing in her bones for something she couldn't explain. Most annoying feeling ever, if you ask her.
So to drown it out she hopped further into the sea.
It was overcast today; sky light grey and rain coming and going. Wind made waves so big and fun Kole regretted not finding this place sooner. Just enough to bounce around but not like the sea from her birthpack where if you got sucked up in the current you'd die.
A particularly strong wave rolled in though and it sent Kole tumbling onto the sharp rocks of the shallow rise. When the shoreline receded she was left laying on her side, watching the horizon and smelling blood. She could place two gashes without looking yet -- one on her lower thigh and another in her shoulder, where she still lay on the pointy rock that made it.
Who was she to distort this perfect view though? The ocean from the side, right up against the water. Light grey clouds moving fast. Dull, even-faster waves of the sea to contrast it. It was really pretty.
Kole lay still, closing her eyes (and holding her breath) when the water rose tall enough to envelop her completely. And she opened them again to watch the water when the tide sunk back again.
