The dense woods swell around the tired little thing. She'd been wandering through these foggy woods for days and had only managed to snatch up a few duck eggs before having to dodge an angry mama duck. That was two days ago and she's been following her nose towards water. Luala slows down at the familiar sound of something large coming through. Rushing well out of sight she hunkers down nice and low, just like her mama had shown her. Mama...it had been a week since she last saw her, she had to keep moving and hiding, keep safe. At least until she could find mama or another adult. She didn't understand why mama left her in the hollow of the gnarled tree trunk only that a pup wouldn't survive for long on their own. Luala has already made sure to dodge aerial predators such as hawks and eagles. She's only ever been warned about the huffing giant king of the forest, the bear. One old sow black bear began to trudge through the wooded glade. Not budging an inch the tiny pup ducks down among the moss covered roots of a towering tree. The dank bark and earth fills her nostrils as does the old bear's scent. Muzzle bunching up slightly she doesn't breathe until the beast's lumbering paws recede in the distance. Waiting for a minute to make sure the coast is clear before resuming her trek onward.
Feeling safe with more distance between herself and the bear she trips over a tree root, nostrils quivering and jaws opening in anticipation at the fresh aroma of lake water. A break in the wood's canopy tells her there's a large clearing up ahead which would mean more predators...slowing her roll the young pup hesitates at the edge of the forest. Lu looks around from under the security of a thick bush. Eventually her instinct to survive and hydrate overruns the warning signs popping up around the large body of water. She's never seen so much and it's a warm afternoon, might as well enjoy! The pup utters a joyous yip before frolicking towards the lake, tripping over her front paws with her forelegs folding beneath that narrow chest and chin hitting the grass, tail in the air. With a blink she scrambles to stand up and rush to splash those oversized puppy paws into the cool water, yipping again happily as the water helps her throbbing paws. Lowering her head instantly with her ears flopping forward she noisily laps up the water with her tail wagging and fur speckled with water droplets.
